Wednesday Prayer
Welcome to Daily Prayer. This week we are reflecting on the LORD as Yahweh Shalom which means the LORD is Peace. Today we reflect on the words of Jesus:
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
As we begin our prayer now, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.
Lord, I quiet my soul before you.
I surrender my fears and my attempts to control and open myself to the grace and peace you give.
I give everyone and everything to You, Lord.
“O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise.”
A Scripture Reading from John 16:33
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
A Prayer of Adoration:
Prince of Peace, you are the Overcomer. I am so thankful for the peace that is found in you. It’s not like anything in this world. Because of you, I do not need to be afraid of anything. You hold everything together and have overcome the world. Despite the troubles of this life, I belong to you and have peace with you. I adore you for giving your life, sending your Spirit, and giving your peace.
A Prayer of Confess:
Lord, forgive me for believing that peace depends on my circumstances. I confess that I’ve allowed fear and worry to rule my heart instead of trusting in you. I’ve looked for distractions to avoid my problems. Lord, forgive me for looking to other people and things for peace and strength instead of abiding in you. I turn to you today and look to you for life and peace.
A Prayer of Trust:
LORD, I trust that I can face suffering and uncertainty without despair because you have overcome the world. Thank you that our hope is not in escaping trouble but in your victorious power and redeeming grace. I trust that sin, death, and satan are defeated enemies. Your Word and Spirit give me vision and encouragement to hold on. Help me to trust that no pain is wasted, no sorrow unseen, and no battle that I fight alone. Because you are victorious, I can trust and rest.
A Prayer of Intercession:
Lord, I pray for those who are weary and weighed down—friends facing loss, families in conflict, hearts carrying burdens. Give them grace to “take heart” and fix their gaze on you. For those who are sick or having difficulty focusing on anything. Would you uphold them and strengthen them? May they experience your presence and peace.
A Moment of Reflection
Lord, you tell us that we have peace in you. Would you show me where I have been seeking peace in the wrong places—in control, comfort, or the approval of others—instead of in you?
A Closing Prayer:
Lord, I take heart today. I will not let my trouble define my reality. I will set my hope on you. I will rest in your victory. Even in difficulty, I know that I belong to you and you are the Prince of Peace.
In your name,
Amen
