Wednesday Prayer
This week we are reflecting on the names El Elyon and El Shaddai. El Elyon means God Most High and El Shaddai means God Almighty, the All-Sufficient One. Today we rest in the truth that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth.
As we begin our prayer now, let's quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.
Most High God, I release my need for control.
I bow my heart before you and give everyone and everything to you.
O LORD, open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise.
A Scripture Reading from Daniel 5:20-21
“But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. He was driven away from people and given the mind of an animal; he lived with the wild donkeys and ate grass like the ox; and his body was drenched with the dew of heaven, until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.”
A Prayer of Adoration
Most High God, you are sovereign over every power and ever every ruler in this world. You can do whatever you please. I adore you for humbling the proud and honoring the humble.
A Prayer of Confession
Lord, forgive me for my pride and arrogance. I have made you too small in my eyes.
There are times that I forget that you are Creator and lord of history. Forgive me for acting as if the world is out of control or that I am in charge of the world. Forgive me for letting fear of governments, events, or dark forces outweigh my trust in you. You are above every power and you are worthy of my worship.
A Prayer of Trust
Today I rest in this truth: the Most High rules. Evil is real, but you are greater. Your kingdom will never end. In this moment, it may seem like darkness is winning but you are patient. Not willing that any should perish but all should come to repentance. I trust that you are above every power in this fallen world and one day every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
A Prayer of Intercession
Lord, humble the proud and lift up the humble. May your kingdom and glory be known to every tribe, and nation, and tongue. May the name of Jesus, ruler of all kings, be honored in every place.
A Moment of Reflection
Lord, where in my life am I tempted to take credit, control or glory that belongs to you?
Lord, you deserve the praise.
Daniel 5:20-21
“But when his heart became arrogant and hardened with pride, he was deposed from his royal throne and stripped of his glory. ..until he acknowledged that the Most High God is sovereign over all kingdoms on earth and sets over them anyone he wishes.”
A Closing Prayer
Most High God, you are above all things and your kingdom will have no end. We want to see you rightly today. Hallowed be your name. May your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
May my heart trust in your rule and may my life reflect your reign today.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
