Sunday Prayer

Sep 28, 2025

Welcome to daily prayer. This week we are reflecting on God as El Roi, which means “the God who sees me”. Today we rest in the truth that El Roi sees us in our pain.

As we begin our prayer now, let's quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.

A Prayer of Surrender

Lord, you are El Roi, the God who sees me.

You see me as I really am. You know all my weaknesses and flaws. You know my pain. I give everyone and everything to you.

O Lord, open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise.

A Scripture Reading from Genesis 16:13:

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her:

“You are the God who sees me,” for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me.

A Prayer of Adoration

El Roi, you are the God who sees. You don’t just see nations or kings. You had compassion on a vulnerable, distressed and pregnant foreign servant who had been rejected and mistreated by your covenant people. You saw Hagar and you allowed her to see you as a God who sees. I adore you as a God who has compassion on the mistreated and the outsider. I praise you for seeing me in my pain.

A Prayer of Confession

Lord, forgive me for ignoring or mistreating people that you see and love. Forgive me for forgetting that you are a God of justice and compassion. In moments of pain, I confess that I often doubt that you care. I acknowledge that I need help seeing people with your eyes. I need help seeing you as a God who personally sees me with compassion.

A Prayer of Trust

Lord, I trust that you are a God who sees those who feel invisible and forgotten. All of us are both sinners and those who suffer. Nothing escapes your gaze. You see us as we are but you don’t leave us that way. I trust that you see me today.

A Prayer of Intercession

El Roi, look upon those who feel invisible or forgotten today. Show them your love and use me as an instrument of your grace. May they know that you see with compassion and may your seeing become their hope.

A Moment of Reflection

Lord, in what area of my life have I been living differently because I don’t think you see or care?

Lord, come and help me today.

Genesis 16:13

She gave this name to the Lord who spoke to her: “You are the God who sees me,”

for she said, “I have now seen the One who sees me."

A Closing Prayer

El Roi, thank you for knowing me and loving me. I turn to you today and take refuge in you. May I walk in the freedom of being seen and loved by you. May I see others with your eyes.

In the name of Jesus,
