Wednesday Prayer
Welcome to Daily Prayer. This week we are reflecting on God’s personal name, Yahweh. Yahweh is the eternal, self-existent and covenant-keeping God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who is ultimately revealed in Jesus Christ. Today we reflect on the Shema, the most important command in the Bible—affirming that Yahweh alone is God and calling for wholehearted love and loyalty to him.
As we begin our prayer now, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the LORD.
Lord, I lay down my need to control, my fear of the future, and my divided loyalties.
I give everyone and everything to you.
O LORD, open my lips and my mouth will declare your praise.
A Scripture reading from Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Hear, O Israel: Yahweh is our God, Yahweh is one.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
A Prayer of Adoration:
LORD, you are our God. I adore you as the one true God. You are one in essence, undivided and faithful. You are utterly unique and you stand alone. I adore you as the God of deliverance and the one who is faithful and true.
A Prayer of Confession:
LORD, forgive me for my divided heart and my neglect of your ways. Forgive me for giving you words of love without a life of love. I am often divided. You are undivided. You are who you are. Forgive me for the ways my heart chases lesser things—the praise of people, the comfort of ease, the illusion of control. Renew in me a pure heart that treasures you above all else.
A Prayer of Trust:
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty and one LORD, Jesus Christ. I trust you as the covenant-keeping God who does not change. You are everything that I need and I devote myself completely to you.
A Prayer of Intercession:
LORD, draw your people into undivided love for you. Protect us from idolatry and distraction. Give us a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know you better. Strengthen families, churches, and communities to reflect your undivided faithfulness. May we be one, as you are one.
A Moment of Reflection:
Lord, you call for my wholehearted love and devotion to you.
Where is my heart divided? What is keeping me from loving you fully?
Deuteronomy 6:4-5
4 Hear, O Israel: Yahweh is our God, Yahweh is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
A Closing Prayer:
LORD, you alone are my Creator and my Redeemer. You are my God. I entrust myself to you and devote myself to loving you with all of who I am. May my life reflect the unity and faithfulness of your being. You are the only One for me.
In the name of Jesus,
Amen.
