Monday Prayer
Welcome to Daily Prayer. This week we are reflecting on the names El Elyon and El Shaddai. El Elyon means God Most High and El Shaddai means God Almighty, the All-Sufficient One. Today we rest in the truth that the Most High God is a deliverer of his people.
As we begin our prayer now, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.
A Prayer of Surrender:
You are worthy of all of my trust and I give everyone and everything to you.
I pause and surrender everything that is grabbing for my attention.
O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
A Scripture reading from Genesis 14:19–20:
"and Melchizedek blessed Abram and said,
“Blessed be Abram by El Elyon,
Creator of heaven and earth.
And praise be to El Elyon, who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
A Prayer of Adoration
El Elyon, Most High God, I rest in your shadow. You are the Creator of all things and the protector of your people. I praise you as the Most High God who blesses and delivers those who trust in you.
A Prayer of Confession
Lord, I confess that I often lean on my own understanding. I trust in my own strength and try to fight battles without you. Forgive me for forgetting that all my blessings and victories come from your hand.
A Prayer of Trust
Lord, I trust that you are with me, just as you were with Abram. Just as the priest-king Melchizedek blessed Abram, I trust that I have received your blessing through Jesus Christ, our Great Priest-King and Lord.
A Prayer of Intercession
Father, I pray for my family and friends. Be their strength and their helper. Remind them that you are El Elyon, the God Most High, that there is no one and no thing above you and you can be trusted.
A Moment of Reflection
Lord, where in my life do I need to remember that you are Most High and able to deliver?
Genesis 14:19–20:
"and Melchizedek blessed Abram and said,
“Blessed be Abram by El Elyon,
Creator of heaven and earth.
And praise be to El Elyon, who delivered your enemies into your hand.”
A Closing Prayer
Most High God, you are sovereign above every other power in this world. Thank
you for creating me and blessing me through Christ. I rest in the shadow of your protection and strength today.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
