Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.
Who does God’s favor rest on? Can I have this peace? How do I receive the Lord’s favor? Don’t you know who I am—and the things I’ve done? I don’t deserve favor; I deserve to be rejected.
On that faithful night so many years ago, the darkness was lit up with the glory of the Lord. The angels rejoiced, and the shepherds trembled at this declaration!
Our God made a way to bring peace between Himself and rebellious humanity. The Messiah entered creation, taking on the likeness of humanity to restore the relationship between God and man. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, lived a sinless life, being completely obedient to His Father in heaven. Christ won the favor of the Lord through His suffering and obedience. Through His sacrifice and resurrection, Christ defeated sin and death once and for all.
When we come to the Lord in faith, we receive the promises of God. The favor of the Lord rests upon us—to grant eternal life, forgiveness, and yes, the peace that surpasses all understanding.
As we celebrate this Advent season, let us rejoice with all of heaven and honor the Lord by receiving His favor through faith. Christ has made a way for you—let’s walk in His peace.
PRAYER:
Father, help me to trust in Your goodness toward me. I am covered by Your favor and have access to peace because of the faithfulness of Jesus, our Lord. Amen.
