Everlasting Joy

----

• Read Psalm 16:5-11 •

You make known to me the path of life; You will fill me with joy in Your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your right hand.

Psalm 16:11

We’ve been celebrating joy this third week of Advent. Let us recall the good news of Jesus’ birth, which brings joy to this Christmas season.

As Christians, our joy does not depend on what is going on in our personal lives, in our world, or even on the people around us or the gifts we exchange. Nothing earthly can ever give us complete joy. Our joy comes from Jesus.

It is the same joy that the shepherds, the angels, the wise men, the hosts of heaven, and Mary and Joseph felt in their hearts as they gathered around the baby Jesus. They believed that this was the fulfillment of God’s promise. Mary and Joseph were able to experience the joy of holding the baby Jesus in their arms—their Lord and Savior.

The shepherds and wise men believed in the signs, wonders, and promises of the Lord. They saw prophecy fulfilled, and their fear was replaced with pure joy as they gazed upon the face of the One who would be their Savior. Their trust was in the Lord, and their hearts were filled with joy.

We are offered that same promise and gift as we recognize Jesus as our Lord and Savior. He came to dwell among us. He went to Calvary’s cross for us. He overcame death and rose again for us. He forgives our sins and gives us the promise of eternal life when we believe in Him.

Our joy doesn’t come from what we possess or what we have accomplished on earth. Our joy is a gift—the same gift given that first Christmas to all who would believe and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. It is still offered freely to everyone today. Receive this gift, and you will receive joy—the joy of our Lord and Savior.

PRAYER:

Lord, thank you that You and You alone are the source of true and everlasting joy. I confess that I often reach for other things for joy. That joy doesn’t last. Please fill my heart with Your joy this season as I prepare to celebrate the greatest gift ever given. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
