Wednesday - The Letter of James (James 4:13-14)

Oct 21, 2026

Welcome to Daily Prayer.

Today, we’re bringing our plans before God—the appointments, decisions, hopes, and responsibilities that fill our minds. Let us prepare to encounter Him today. Release the pressure to have everything figured out. Let your heart become quiet before the Lord.

James 4:13–14

Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

A Prayer of Worship

Father, we worship You as the God who sees beyond what we can see. Nothing about tomorrow is hidden from You. You are the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. You are wise when our understanding is limited. You are steady when our circumstances change. You are present in the moments we have prepared for and in the ones that catch us by surprise. We do not have to know everything to know that You are worthy of our trust. There is nothing in this world that outweighs your glory. Before we ask You to guide our plans, we acknowledge that our lives belong to You. Amen.

A Prayer of Confession

Lord, we confess that we sometimes make plans as though we are in charge of everything. We deceives ourselves and think we have more control than we really do. Then we become frustrated when life refuses to follow our instructions. Forgive us for leaving You out of decisions and asking for Your blessing only after we have chosen our direction. Help us to seek you in all our ways, keeping pace with your Spirit. Teach us to plan with open hands and to seek Your wisdom before rushing ahead. Amen.

Prayer of Trust

Father, we bring You the plans that matter deeply to us. Some involve work or finances. Others involve the people we care deeply about. You know how much these plans matter to us. You understand the hopes beneath them. Help us to know the parts we are to play, and help us to release to you the parts you ask for. If a plan needs to change, give us humility to receive that change. If we need to wait, give us patience. We entrust this decision to Your wisdom and care. Lead us in faithful obedience today. Amen.

Our Memory Verse for the Week

James 4:17

If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.

Closing Reflection and Prayer

Consider this question: Which plan can I bring to God before I take another step?

Father, thank You for caring about the details of our lives. Thank You that we can bring You both major decisions and ordinary responsibilities. As we leave this time of prayer, help us practice trust and dependence. Remind us to turn our hearts toward You. Keep us from treating prayer as another task to finish. Let it become the way we walk with You throughout the day. We ask for wisdom to recognize our next responsibility and grace to carry it out well. And at the end of this day, may we give you all the glory for everything you accomplish. In Jesus’ name, amen.
