Friday - The Letter of James (Romans 12:1-2)
Welcome to daily prayer. This week we will continue our journey as a church body
through James. Today, we will pray through a Scripture in Romans that echoes the heart of
James. Before we begin, let’s pause.
DRAW NEAR/GRATITUDE: Lord we continue to draw near to You. Thank you, You are here
with me now and delight in this time together.
SCRIPTURE: A Scripture reading from Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your
bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and
proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
A PRAYER OF CONFESSION/TRUST: Lord, let these words wash over me. Let them be
planted deep within me- that true and proper worship is simply a life laid down. A
surrendered life to You. Once again, I confess how often I resist this surrendered life and
choose my way- desires that may be influenced by this world. I know my flesh
opposes death and denial.
I confess the urge at times it’s much easier to take the wide and
easy road of the world rather than the narrow road- that may mean sacrifice and being
uncomfortable. Trusting before seeing and knowing. Lord, as I sit here this morning remind
me and lead me back to the way of life you have invited us into. The path that You have
walked. A beautiful, surrendered life that is being transformed by You.
A PRAYER OF INTERCESSION: Oh Holy Spirit how we need our mind renewed! For it is
how we can see You and Your will for our lives more clearly. Let us take this lesson to heart-
that time with You every morning is not wasted but is used to renew our minds on what is
true.
I pray this morning that every member of our church will grow in knowing the voice of
our great Shepherd. That there would be a hunger in hiding the Word of God in our hearts.
There is a battle going on around us. And a battle for our minds. This morning we declare
the powerful blood of Jesus over the minds of our church to be renewed, to be healed, and
to be free so that we can walk in the beautiful plans you have for us.
A MOMENT OF REFLECTION: As we listen to this passage again, ask yourself,
What am I giving my attention to most? We are all being conformed and shaped by
something. Either to the patterns of this world or to the patterns of Jesus- the Kingdom of
God.
SCRIPTURE AGAIN:
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your
bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and
proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed
by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what
God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
MEMORY VERSE: And now a verse for us to memorize and meditate on this week…
JAMES 4:7-8
“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from
you. Come near to God and he will come near to you."
CLOSING PRAYER: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things
of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.
