Monday - the Letter of James (James 4:1-3)

Oct 12, 2026

Welcome to daily prayer. This week we will continue our journey as a church body

through James. This has been a convicting few weeks. May the Lord continue to search our

hearts and gently expose us this week as we walk through the beginning of James 4.

Change us, Holy Spirit, as we pray through your Word.

DRAW NEAR/GRATITUDE: Let’s take a moment to re-center ourselves on our Father and his

goodness. Lord, I adore you. You are good to me. Always. You have good in store for me. You

look at me with eyes of love. I want to look back at you with love Father. Let me see you rightly

today.

SCRIPTURE: A Scripture reading from James 4:1-3:

1 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the

evil desires at war within you? 2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme

and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you

fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want

because you don’t ask God for it. 3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it

because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

A PRAYER OF CONFESSION/TRUST:

Holy Spirit, I am so desperately in need of you. I cannot wage war against my flesh without your help. I admit that the desires of this world are strong. I am so often tempted to think my life would be easier or better if I had what others have. Lord, I confess my jealousy to you. I confess the war inside of me to fight to get what I don’t have. Jesus, forgive me, heal me, cleanse me! Give me a pure heart Lord, with pure motives. Let me

see You and Your Kingdom and truly desire that more than what will only give me temporary

pleasure.

Help me to trust you when you have not given me what you have given others. Help

line mw back up with truth when I start to become jealous over someone else’s life. Keep me

far from wanting to take good away from others to try and get it myself. Give me eyes that see

others first, that see others as Your children. Give me a heart that can celebrate others instead

of comparing or being jealous.

A PRAYER OF REPENTANCE & INTERCESSION:

Lord, we give you our addictions, no matter how subtle to the pleasures of this world.

We give you our addiction to social media, to approval of others, to “zoning out”, to status, to shopping, to adventure, to eating, to full bank accounts, to feeling good about ourselves. Father, all good things are a gift from You, but we confess right now that our desires can as this Scripture says, wage war within us. Our desire to

have instant gratification gets in front of our desire for You. We repent. Lord, line up our desires

today in the proper place. We especially lift up the younger generation who will grow up not

knowing life before the internet and social media. Never before has it been so easy to see and

know what everyone else has, to feel like we are missing out, to instantly become jealous.

Lord, protect their eyes and minds. Jesus, let them SEE you and encounter you and never be

the same. We pray for a generation of Jesus followers that weeps at your feet because theyhave been wrecked by your beauty. May the things of the world fall away in comparison to

knowing You!

Set this next generation on fire Lord! We bless them today with intimacy with YOU!

A MOMENT OF REFLECTION:

Let’s listen to the passage again and have some time reflecting

on the desires within us.

Ask the Lord, “Is there any desire in me that is not in it’s proper place?”

Take this question with you as you go throughout your day.

SCRIPTURE AGAIN:

1 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Don’t they come from the

evil desires at war within you? 2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme

and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you

fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want

because you don’t ask God for it. 3 And even when you ask, you don’t get it

because your motives are all wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

And now a verse for us to memorize and meditate on this week…

JAMES 4:7-8

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from

you. Come near to God and he will come near to you."

CLOSING PRAYER: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things

of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.
