Thursday - The Letter of James (Colossians 1:3–14)

Oct 8, 2026

Welcome to Daily Prayer.

This week we've been reflecting on the nature and fruit of true wisdom.

And today we're going to be led in prayer from a recording that our kids did in June of this year on biblical prayers from the New Testament. And so today is an uplifting series of prayers from our kids on Colossians 1, how the gospel bears fruit and grows in our lives, and how through the spirit of wisdom and understanding we can live lives worthy of the Lord and please him in every way.

So let's take a few deep breaths, surrender everything that's heavy to the Lord, and then enjoy being led in prayer by our kids.

Lord, we draw near to you.

We lay down everything that's grabbing for our attention.

We bring to you everything that's weighing us down, everything that's pulling us in different directions.

We give everyone and everything to you.

Today we say: we love you.

A Scripture reading from Colossians 1:3–14:

Father, I thank you for the people you have placed in my life. Thank you for every way you have worked in and through them.

Fill my heart with joy and gratitude as I remember your faithfulness.

Thank you for continuing the good work you began in me.

Help me trust that you are still shaping me and growing me every day.

Lord, you know how deeply I need you.

Grow my love more and more.

Give me wisdom and understanding and discernment so I can recognize what is good and pleasing to you.

Help me live with a pure heart and a faithful spirit. Let my life produce the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ. May everything I do bring glory and praise to you.

Prayers of gratitude and adoration:

God, thank you for your goodness.

God, thank you for good friends.

Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for us.

Thank you for my family. God, you are so, so good.

You created me and you know everything about me. You even know my thoughts before I think them.

You never leave me, and I know I can trust you with my whole life.

A closing prayer from Psalm 19:14:

May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing in your sight, oh Lord, my rock and my redeemer.
