Tuesday - The Letter of James (James 4:4-6)

Oct 13, 2026

INTRO: Welcome to daily prayer. This week we will continue our journey as a church body

through James. This has been a convicting few weeks. May the Lord continue to search our

hearts and gently expose us this week as we walk through the beginning of James 4.

Change us, Holy Spirit, as we pray through your Word.

DRAW NEAR/GRATITUDE: Lord here I am. In Him, we live and move and have our

being.

SCRIPTURE: A Scripture reading from James 4: 4-6

4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an

enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make

yourself an enemy of God. 5 Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They

say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be

faithful to him.6 And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

A PRAYER OF CONFESSION/TRUST: My Lord. How often does my soul wrestle with the

desires of this world. And I confess the many times I have given myself over to these

temptations. I confess at times that I have had one foot in Your Kingdom and one foot in this

world. Forgive me Lord for not trusting you completely. We see in this scripture

that the two are opposed- we cannot live with one foot in with You and one foot out. All

though we remain in this world, Jesus, you have called us out from it. To not be ruled or to

go along with its broken and fallen systems but to live within Your Kingdom on this earth- as

it continues to invade this world. Lord, we desire an undivided heart.

A PRAYER OF INTERCESSION: Lord, open our eyes to see the beauty of Your Kingdom

and how opposed it is to this world. For so long Your church has been entangled with the

things of this world. We have sought to do things our way, using human wisdom and not

humbly seeking You.

Oh, purify our hearts! Purify Your bride, the church,

that You are preparing for Your coming! We want to be Your aroma in this world. Set apart.

Thank You for the wonderful Holy Spirit You have given to us- that He is drawing us to You.

Let us not grieve Him but keep in step with Him. We take this moment now, Lord, to humbly

bow before You and to receive Your abundant grace for today. Thank you for this amazing

grace.

A MOMENT OF REFLECTION: Holy Spirit, here I am. As I’m learning to become more one

with You, so are my desires becoming like Yours. Show me the places in my heart and soul

that still may be attached to this world. Is it the desire for more material things? Is it the

desire to please man? Is it the desire to self-indulge? Show me something today Lord, that I

may be more undivided towards You.

SCRIPTURE AGAIN:

4 You adulterers! Don’t you realize that friendship with the world makes you an

enemy of God? I say it again: If you want to be a friend of the world, you make

yourself an enemy of God. 5 Do you think the Scriptures have no meaning? They

say that God is passionate that the spirit he has placed within us should be

faithful to him.6 And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say,

“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

MEMORY VERSE: And now a verse for us to memorize and meditate on this week…

JAMES 4:7-8

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from

you. Come near to God and he will come near to you."

CLOSING PRAYER: Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face and the things of

earth will grow strangely dim in the light of his glory and grace.
