WEEK TWO - PEACE

True Peace
----
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
Jesus tells His disciples that He has a peace for their lives that He gives to them. He says, “Let not your hearts”—the very depth of your bein—“be troubled, and do not live in fear.” The peace that God gives doesn’t mean exemption from conflict or trials; it speaks of a calm confidence in Him. This peace brings courage for living and keeps our hearts from being overwhelmed by fear.
Jesus exhibits once more that He is supernatural in His power—especially as it applies to human need. Based on 2 Peter 1:3, Scripture says, “God’s power has given us everything we need for life.” The old hymn reminds us, “He walks with me, and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own.” We belong to God! His presence in our lives brings immediate and special action. God’s peace is truly His grace at work.
My wife, Jayne, and I have a dear friend who is living peacefully through many treatments for cancer. She has God’s peace through every trial her journey brings. Each week brings more pain, suffering, and travel, yet she continues to walk with calm assurance. She knows that in Jesus—through the power of the Holy Spirit—she lives, moves, and has her being. She pursues peace and refuses to live without it.
God intends a rich and fruitful life for us. However, we must discipline our thoughts and keep our minds fixed on Him. Pray without ceasing! Do that, and God will meet your need for His peace. Ask Him for peace—He has promised to give it.
Jayne and I encourage you to pray for God’s peace during this Advent Season. Jesus will bless you with His peace. Count on it!
PRAYER:
Thank you that you promised me a true peace-a peace so different from what the world offers. Heavenly Father, I give you every worry and every concern and I choose to receive your peace. Amen
