A Living Hope
----
• Read 1 Peter 3:15-17 •
Advent is a season of waiting, longing, and watching for Christ’s coming. For both soldier and civilian, waiting is part of life—whether standing guard through the night or enduring the uncertainties of daily struggles. Peter reminds us to “always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have”
This hope is not wishful thinking. It is the steady assurance that God’s promises hold true, even when circumstances are uncertain, even when battles—seen or unseen—press in. Our hope is not rooted in ourselves but in Christ, who entered our world as a fragile child and who will return as the victorious King. Advent teaches us to cling to that hope in both joy and hardship.
Peter also reminds us to give this answer “with gentleness and respect” (v. 15). Whether in uniform or not, our lives can become living testimonies when our actions reflect the peace and love of Jesus. Others may not always understand, but gentleness speaks louder than force.
Sometimes holding onto hope is costly. Peter speaks of suffering for doing good rather than evil (vv. 16–17). Soldiers know the weight of sacrifice, and civilians know
the ache of trials.
Yet even in suffering, we are never abandoned. Our hope shines brightest in the dark, pointing others to the true Light of the World.
So this Advent, as the candle of Hope is lit, let us remember: our confidence is not in our own strength, but in Christ—who has come, who is with us now, and who will come again.
PRAYER:
Lord Jesus, fill our hearts with Your hope this Advent season. Help us to live with gentleness and courage—ready to point others to You, the true Light of the World. Amen.
