Wednesday - The Gospel According To Mark
Welcome to Daily Prayer. This is week 2 of an 11-week journey through Mark’s account of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are going to follow Jesus all the way from the wilderness to the cross and empty tomb. May our hearts burn within us as we travel along the way.
As we begin our time together, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.
A Scripture Reading from Mark 1:29-34
And immediately he left the synagogue and entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. Now Simon's mother-in-law lay ill with a fever, and immediately they told him about her. And he came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and the fever left her, and she began to serve them.
That evening at sundown they brought to him all who were sick or oppressed by demons. And the whole city was gathered together at the door. And he healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons. And he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him.
A Prayer of Adoration
Jesus, we worship You as the Lord who heals. You step into ordinary spaces — homes, sickbeds, places of pain — and Your presence brings restoration. You do not avoid weakness or suffering; You meet it with compassion and power. With a touch, You lift the broken. With Your presence, You restore strength.
We praise You as the King whose authority extends over every disease, every ailment, and every limitation of the human body. You are not distant from our pain—you are near, attentive, and powerful. We honor You as the Healer, full of mercy and authority, worthy of our trust and our praise.
A Prayer of Confession
Jesus, we confess that we do not always bring our sickness and weakness to You.
Sometimes we carry pain silently. Sometimes we grow weary, discouraged, or resigned, forgetting that You are present and willing to heal. We confess the moments we doubt Your compassion or assume You are too busy for our needs.
Forgive us for relying only on ourselves or losing hope in the waiting. Cleanse us from fear, unbelief, and quiet despair. We open every place of weakness to You again and ask You to reign even there. Thank You for Your patience and Your mercy toward us.
A Prayer of Trust
Jesus, we renew our trust in You as our Healer. You break fevers. You repair bones. You eradicate diseases. You scatter demons. Even when healing is not immediate, we trust that You are still at work and still good. We place our bodies, our minds, and our hearts in Your hands. Teach us to trust Your timing and Your purposes, knowing that Your ways are perfect. Whether through miraculous healing or sustaining grace, we believe that You are faithful and that Your presence is our greatest hope.
A Prayer of Intercession
Jesus, we pray for all who are sick and suffering. We lift up those in our families, our church, and our community who are battling illness, chronic pain, weakness, or disease. We ask that Your healing power would meet them right where they are.
We pray for those who feel overlooked, exhausted, or hopeless in their suffering. Let them know that You see them and that You care deeply. Bring healing, strength, and peace. May many come to know You not only as Savior, but as the compassionate King who heals and restores.
Read Again
As we read the passage again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
A Moment of Reflection
Lord, search my heart and point our anything that is holding me back from believing and walking in Your authority over sickness and death. I thank you for doctors and medicine, but I never want to forget that you are the Great Physician.
A Weekly Verse to Memorize:
Mark 1:17
“And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”
Closing Prayer
Over the next few moments, offer prayers of faith for healing over you, your family, and your friends. According to Romans 8:11, the same Spirit Who raised Jesus from the dead lives in us and gives life to our mortal bodies. Pray boldly for against any illness, stronghold, or impairment, asking the Lord to graciously display His power and glory in your midst today.
