Wednesday - The Gospel According To Mark

Mar 25, 2026

Welcome to Daily Prayer. This is week 9 of an 11-week journey through Mark’s account of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we begin our time together, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.

A Scripture Reading from Mark 10:1-12

1 And he left there and went to the region of Judea and beyond the Jordan, and crowds gathered to him again. And again, as was his custom, he taught them. 2 And Pharisees came up and in order to test him asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?” 3 He answered them, “What did Moses command you?” 4 They said, “Moses allowed a man to write a certificate of divorce and to send her away.” 5 And Jesus said to them, “Because of your hardness of heart he wrote you this commandment. 6 But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ 7 ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, 8 and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” 10 And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. 11 And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, 12 and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.”

A Prayer of Adoration

Jesus, we adore You as the Author of covenant love. From the beginning, You created marriage with purpose — a union marked by oneness, commitment, and faithfulness. We praise You as the God who does not break His promises. Your love is not temporary. Your faithfulness does not waver. You remain true, even when we are not. You are the One who joins lives together, who defines love not by feelings, but by covenant. Your design is good, Your ways are wise, and Your heart is for flourishing, not restriction. We worship You as the faithful Bridegroom, whose love is steady, enduring, and true.

A Prayer of Confession

Jesus, we confess the hardness of heart You spoke about. We see it in ourselves — in our stubbornness, in our unwillingness to forgive, in our tendency to give up when things become difficult. We confess that we often treat covenant lightly. We prioritize convenience over commitment. We allow culture to shape our view of relationships more than Your Word. We confess unfaithfulness — not only in actions, but in thoughts, attitudes, and intentions. And we acknowledge the pain and brokenness that exists — the wounds of divorce, betrayal, and loss. Forgive us for where we have fallen short. Soften our hearts where they have grown hard. Restore what sin has damaged.

A Prayer of Trust

Jesus, we choose to trust Your design for marriage. We trust that faithfulness, though difficult, leads to life. We trust that covenant love reflects something deeper — Your own love for us. We trust You not only with the ideal, but also with the reality of brokenness. You see every story. You know every wound. You carry grace for what has been fractured. Teach us to trust You in our relationships — to rely on Your strength to remain faithful, to forgive, to persevere, to love when it is costly. And for those walking through pain or regret, help them trust that Your grace is not exhausted. You are still at work, restoring and redeeming.

A Prayer of Intercession

Jesus, we lift up marriages today. Strengthen what is weak. Renew what has grown distant. Restore what has been damaged. We pray for unity between husbands and wives — that love would deepen, communication would be honest, and commitment would remain steady. We pray for those struggling in their marriages right now — bring humility, bring healing, bring reconciliation where possible. We also pray for those who carry the pain of divorce — bring comfort, bring healing, bring freedom from shame. Surround them with Your grace and truth. Raise up a people who reflect covenant faithfulness in a world that has forgotten its value.

Read Again

As we read some of the passage again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses. 9 What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.”

A Moment of Reflection

Jesus, I pause and examine my own heart. Where is there hardness in me? Where am I resisting forgiveness, humility, or commitment? Teach me to love with faithfulness, not just with feeling. Teach me to honor the commitments I’ve made. If there are wounds in my story, meet me there with Your grace. If there are areas where I need to grow, lead me gently and clearly. Shape my heart to reflect Your faithful love.

A Weekly Verse to Memorize

Mark 10:15

“Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”

Closing Prayer

During these last few moments, ask Jesus, “Where are You calling me to greater faithfulness?” And, “Is there any hardness in my heart You want to soften?” Sit with Him — and let His grace meet you there.
