Saturday - The Gospel According To Mark
Welcome to Daily Prayer. This is week 9 of an 11-week journey through Mark’s account of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we begin our time together, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.
A Scripture Reading from Mark 10:46-52
46 And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49 And Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50 And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. 51 And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.” 52 And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way.
A Prayer of Adoration
Jesus, we adore You as the One who hears the cries others try to silence. While the crowd moved quickly and dismissed Bartimaeus, You stopped. You were not too busy, not too distracted, not too important to notice one desperate voice calling out to You. You are the Son of David, full of mercy and power, yet attentive to the overlooked and the marginalized. You not only hear us—you call us near. You invite us to speak, to ask, to bring our need before You. We praise You as the One who opens blind eyes, restores what is broken, and responds personally to those who cry out in faith.
A Prayer of Confession
Jesus, we confess how often we stay quiet when we should cry out. We let fear, embarrassment, or the opinions of others keep us from calling on You boldly. We confess that when resistance comes—when people or circumstances seem to push us back—we often give up instead of pressing in. We listen to voices that tell us to be silent, to settle, to stop asking. We confess that we don’t always believe You are willing to stop for us, to listen to us, to respond to our need. Forgive us for shrinking back. Forgive us for allowing discouragement to silence our faith. Teach us to cry out to You with persistence and confidence.
A Prayer of Trust
Jesus, we choose to trust that when we call out to You, You hear us. We trust that You still stop, still notice, still respond with compassion. When You ask, “What do you want Me to do for you?” we believe that it is an invitation, not a test. Teach us to respond with honesty and faith, just like Bartimaeus. Help us to throw aside whatever holds us back—fear, doubt, pride, or comfort—and come to You quickly and openly. We trust that Your power is enough for our need, and that Your mercy is greater than our limitations. We trust You not only to meet us, but to lead us forward into a new way of living.
A Prayer of Intercession
Jesus, we lift up those who feel like Bartimaeus—overlooked, dismissed, or sitting on the margins. Those who feel unheard, unseen, or silenced by others. We pray for those who are crying out to You right now in desperation—for healing, for breakthrough, for hope. Give them the courage to keep calling out, even when others try to quiet them. We pray for those who feel stuck in darkness—physically, emotionally, or spiritually. Speak Your healing into their lives. And we ask that You would use us to be people who call others toward You, not silence them—people who make space for faith, who encourage others to come to You, and who reflect Your compassion in the way we respond.
Read Again
As we read the passage again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
A Moment of Reflection
Jesus, I pause and consider where I need to cry out to You. What have I been silent about? What need have I been hesitant to bring before You? Right now, I choose to call on You with honesty and faith. I bring my need into the open. And as I picture You asking me, “What do you want Me to do for you?” I respond with trust. I believe that You see me, that You hear me, and that You are able to meet me right where I am.
A Weekly Verse to Memorize
Mark 10:15
“Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.”
Closing Prayer
During these last few moments, ask Jesus boldly for what you need. Don’t hold back—call out to Him. And listen for His invitation to come near.
