Wednesday - The Letter of James (James 2:18-20)
Welcome to Daily Prayer.
Let’s take a moment to remember who we’re coming to. God already knows the truth about us, and through Jesus, we can come to him with confidence. Father, today I give everyone and everything to you. I bring my gratitude, my struggles, and the parts of me that only you see. Help me receive your grace and respond honestly today.
James 2:18–20
“But someone will say, ‘You have faith and I have works.’ Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder! Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless?”

A Prayer of Praise
Jesus, there is no dishonesty in you. Your glory is beyond anything our earthly minds can fully comprehend. You are faithful when I am not. You tell me the truth and love me through what it exposes. I praise you for that. You know everything about me, and you’ve given yourself for me. I don’t have to convince you I’m worth loving. You have already shown me your love at the cross, but the grave did not hold you. My failures are not beyond your power to forgive and transform. Lord, you are worthy of my whole life. Help me see your goodness clearly enough that I want to follow you even when obedience is hard.
A Prayer of Petition
Father, please make me more like Jesus. I don’t want to be satisfied with knowing the right answers while the people closest to me keep getting hurt by the way I speak. I need your help in those moments when I’m irritated. I don’t want to be defensive. I don’t want to be determined to get my own way. Please reach into those places. Help me stop before I say something cruel. Give me courage to tell the truth when I’m tempted to protect myself. If I owe someone an apology, help me offer it without making them responsible for my behavior.
Holy Spirit, show me where you are working in me today. I want my family, and friends, and the people I work with to experience your patience through me. Let them see your kindness in the way I listen and your faithfulness in the way I keep my word. I cannot change myself without you. But I have hope because you are at work in me. And I thank you for your persistence and your grace.
Closing Prayer
Father, thank you that your grace reaches into my ordinary life. As I go, help me carry the humility and hope I have found here into my conversations. Make me quick to listen, and generous with encouragement. Let the way I treat people bring honor to Jesus. In his name I pray, amen.
