Tuesday - The Letter of James (James 2:15-17)

Welcome to Daily Prayer. Whatever you’re carrying today, you can bring it to God. You don’t have to find the right words or get yourself together first. He is good, and you are welcome in his presence. Father, today I give everyone and everything to you. Help me turn my attention toward you. I need your love to shape the way I live today.

James 2:15–17

“If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

A Prayer of Confession

Lord, you have been so good to me. You’ve met me in places where I had nothing to offer. You’ve forgiven sins I was ashamed to admit. In Jesus, you came near when I could never have found my own way back. And still, there are times I keep my distance from someone else’s pain.

Forgive me, Father. I’ve sometimes offered a kind response because I wanted to move on. I’ve protected my schedule and my comfort when I could have helped. I don’t want my heart to stay this way. Where I have grown numb, help me feel again. Where I’m exhausted, restore me. Holy Spirit, show me what I need to see. Thank you that I can confess this because of Jesus. Your mercies are new every morning and they give me hope.

A Prayer of Petition

Father, please let your love move me today. There are people around me who are worn down and wondering whether anyone cares. Help me to notice them. Don’t let me be so consumed with my own concerns that I miss an opportunity to help. Bring someone to mind, Lord. Show me what I can do.

If they need food, help me share what I have. If they need company, help me make time. Give me the willingness to follow through. Jesus, you have loved me so generously. I want the people around me to experience that same goodness through the way I treat them. Please help the person who feels forgotten today. Provide what they need. Strengthen them. Give them reason to hope. Surprise them with your love today.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank you for meeting me here. As I return to my day, keep my heart open to you and to the people around me. Help me remember how generously I have been loved. Let that gratitude shape everything I say and do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
