Friday - The Letter of James (Galatians 5:8-10)

Welcome to daily prayer. Today we learn from Paul that walking by the Spirit and keeping the royal law are two sides of the same coin. It is Christlikeness. If we walk by the Spirit, we will walk in love. As we begin our time together, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord. 

Lord, we lay down our desire for other things and embrace the life of freedom. Fill us with your Spirit that we would walk in your ways. We consecrate our whole selves to you, body, soul and Spirit. Transform us Lord.  

A Scripture reading from Galatians 5:13-16:

13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 

14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Adoration: 

Lord, we thank you for adopting us and making us your own. Jesus, you have done what we could never do. Father, you have transferred us from the domain of darkness into the kingdom of your beloved Son. Thank you for the gift of forgiveness and the calling to freedom. Thank you for saving us from the punishment of sin and freeing us from slavery to fear, the flesh, the world and the devil.  

We worship you for the gift of your Spirit. You have empowered us to live a life of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit and for that we adore you.

Confession:

Lord, we confess our tendency to indulge the flesh. We have not used our freedom to serve one another in love. We have been proud instead of humble. We have torn down instead of building up. Forgive us and renew a right spirit within us. 

Today we make the good confession: where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. Lord, we trust that as we fix our gaze on you that you will keep transforming us into the image of Christ. 

Intercession:

Lord, fill us with your Spirit and teach us to walk by the Spirit that we would mature in love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Give us vision for a life of fulness and fulfillment. Teach us how to serve one another humbly in love. May know debt remain outstanding except the continuing debt to love another another. 

Memory Verse:

James 2:7

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.

A Closing Prayer:

Father, we want to love you and love everyone you love. May we never harm our neighbor but only do good to them. Holy Spirit, fill us up so we would fulfill your purpose today. We know you are working. We trust you to lead us. May our waking, our working, and our resting bring honor to you and joy to others.
