Wednesday - The Letter of James (James 1:22-25)

Welcome to Daily Prayer.

This week, we are continuing our journey as a church body through the book of James. Today, we are in chapter 1, verses 22 through 25.

Before we begin, let's take a quiet moment to draw near to the Lord.

Lord Jesus, I love you. Open my eyes to see your Word today. Open my ears to hear what you are saying to me. Open my heart to believe and my hands to obey. May your Holy Spirit bring transformation in my life.

A Scripture reading from James 1:22–25:

"22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do."

A prayer of confession:

Jesus, I confess that I can so easily read your Word, or listen to a message, and walk away and immediately forget.

I fall into the trap of self-deception, convincing myself that merely hearing your Word is enough.

Jesus, forgive me for being quick to hear, but slow to obey. Forgive me for the times I've chosen my own way over your truth.

Holy Spirit, give me a heart that hungers for obedience. Search me and reveal any area where I am compromising or resisting your direction.

Help me to look intently into your Word and align my life with what it says.

A prayer of intercession:

Lord, we pray today for our church body that we would not just be listeners of your Word, but doers.

We pray that your Word would transform our hearts, our homes, our workplaces, and our relationships.

Protect us from the lie that hearing is the same as obeying.

Fill us with courage to live out your truth, even when it's hard or goes against the culture around us.

May our lives bring glory to you as we walk in faithful obedience.

A moment of reflection:

Lord, what is one thing you are calling me to do today in response to your Word?

Whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
