Friday - Because He Lives
Welcome to Daily Prayer. This is Week 5 of the Because He Lives series — encounters with the risen Jesus. This week we pray through the encounter the disciples had with Jesus in Galilee, where he spoke one of the most meaningful passages in Scripture — the Great Commission. Let us quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord, anticipating a special connection with him today. Father, today we give everyone and everything to you.
Matthew 28:16-20 (ESV)
Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Word of Encouragement
Jesus calls us to obey everything He has commanded. Obedience is not about earning His love—it’s about responding to it. His commands are not heavy—they are life-giving. They align us with truth, freedom, and purpose. When we learn the ways of the Kingdom, we step into the life He designed for us, and we begin to experience fulfillment in a way that only a life lived for God’s glory can bring.
A Prayer of Adoration
Jesus, your words are life. Your ways are good. You lead me in truth—not to burden me, but to free me. Your commands reveal your wisdom and your love for us. Everything you ask of me is ultimately leading me toward life. I thank You that You never ask anything of me that isn’t for my good and Your glory.
A Prayer of Confession
Lord, I admit that I don’t always obey. Sometimes I delay. Sometimes I pick and choose. Forgive me for resisting your voice. There are times when I resist because obedience feels uncomfortable or costly. Forgive me for the ways I delay what you have already made clear.
A Prayer of Petition
Give me a willing heart. Help me obey quickly…fully…and joyfully. Show me where you are calling me to take a step of obedience today. Give me strength to follow through when obedience becomes difficult. Shape my heart so that I desire your will more than my own.
Closing Prayer
During these last few moments, ask the Lord, “What is the next thing you are asking me to do?” Listen. Respond. Ask for clarity, for peace, and for courage. And then take your first step of obedience today.
