Thursday - Pray Like This
Welcome to Daily Prayer. We are continuing this week to meditate on this phrase from The Lord’s Prayer, “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Today, we will focus on dying to the self life and giving ourselves over to The Father and His will. He will ask much of us, but He will give us more than we could imagine.
Before we begin, let’s pause. In Him, we live and move and have our being.
Holy Spirit help us to pray.
A scripture reading from John 12:24-26
24Truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains by itself. But if
it dies, it produces much fruit. 25The one who loves his life will lose it, and the one who hates
his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26If anyone serves me, he must follow me.
Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
RESPOND/REJOICE:
Lord Jesus we see through your life and teachings that true life and blessing comes through death. You lived a life of surrender to the will of God that ultimately led you to an agonizing and shameful death on the cross.
If this is the pathway of our Master and teacher, then why do we avoid it? Why do we think of it as something we do not need to do? We praise You Jesus for enduring the cross so that we could live. We honor You for obeying the Father and giving Your life.
ACKNOWLEDGE OUR NEED/ASK FOR HELP:
Lord, it was for the joy set before You that you endured the cross—because of your love for the Father and His will, Your mind was set on the eternal blessings that would come through your ultimate surrender of saying yes to Him.
Help us Oh Lord to have this perspective. Help us to look at You, Jesus, and to set our minds on the
“things above” so that we can live a life of surrender and death to self.
We desire closeness to You and a life lived for your Glory.
Let’s pause again to read the Scripture and say Yes to Jesus’ words in our lives.
SCRIPTURE AGAIN: Truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it
remains by itself. But if it dies, it produces much fruit. 25The one who loves his life will lose it,
and the one who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26If anyone serves me, he must follow me. Where I am, there my servant also will be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
YIELD and SAY YES: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit we yield to You. Although we feel the tension
in our soul for desires of this world and flesh, we trust in Your words that it is better to deny
ourselves, take up our cross and follow You. We yield to the cost of following You. Today we
agree with what the apostle Paul wrote and declared “I have been crucified with Christ and it is
no longer I who live, but Christ IN ME..”
As we end our time together, let’s join in with the saints that came before us and the body of
Christ around the world today by praying the Lord’s Prayer…
*LORD’S PRAYER*
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us
lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil
for yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory for ever. Amen.
