Wednesday - Pray Like This (Doxology)
Welcome to daily prayer. This week, we are focusing on the last phrase of the Lord’s prayer…
“For Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Today, we will listen to Jesus’ words as He describes what people of the Kingdom look like in the Beatitudes. We will pray today through the first half and tomorrow we will go through the second half. Before we begin, let’s take a a deep breath and pause to prepare our hearts for some intentional time with our Father.
PAUSE:
Lord, I love to be with you. Today, with David, we proclaim…
One thing I have asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life; to behold the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple.
Let me behold the beauty of your Kingdom today.
SCRIPTURE: A Scripture reading from Matthew 5:1-6
5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.
He said:
3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
RESPOND:
This is the description that Jesus gives us for what people of His Kingdom look like. Often times, the view we have of power and glory on this earth is exactly opposite of what our humble King describes.
Lord, I ask you now to open my heart to receive this teaching and to desire to live like this. Thank you that Your ways are not my ways. We rejoice in Your pure, holy, beautiful Kingdom. Thank you that your Kingdom is unlike what we see in the world.
ASK FOR HELP:
Lord, I acknowledge my need for you to make me into a person of Your Kingdom. Many of these attributes…mourning, humility, hungering and thirsting…are not comfortable. My flesh avoids them, but I ask you today for help to lean into being needy and desperate for You Jesus. Even if that means feeling uncomfortable, even if that means a process of stripping me of myself and the ways I have been living, I invite you Lord to continue that work in me. Make me a person of humility and meekness Jesus. Help me to chose to go low, to bow down, to submit to Your power and glory.
SCRIPTURE AGAIN:
As we read the Scripture again, ask the Holy Spirit which of these beatitudes He is at work on in your life right now and agree with his work…
5 Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them.
He said:
3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4
Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.
5
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
YIELD:
Jesus, I say YES to the process of becoming a person of the Kingdom. I want my whole being to delight in and embody your Kingdom. Jesus, I want to look like you, talk like you, think like you as I walk my journey on this earth. I give you complete access today to my heart, mind, and body. Yours is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever and ever!
ENDING BLESSING:
Receive this blessing as we end our time together…
May the peace of the Lord Christ go with you, wherever He may send you.
May He guide you through the wilderness and protect you through the storm.
May He bring you home rejoicing at the wonders He has shown you.
And may He bring you home rejoicing once again.
