Saturday Heart Check - Pray Like This (Forgiveness)

Jul 18, 2026

Welcome to Daily Prayer. Throughout this week, we have remembered the debt Jesus paid,

the mercy we have received, the debts we must release, the bitterness we must put away,

and the wisdom needed when forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same.

Today is a Heart Check—an opportunity to slow down and allow the Holy Spirit to examine our hearts.

There is no need to rush. Rest in the Lord today and give Him full access to your heart and

mind, allowing Him to reach the deepest needs of your soul.

Questions of Reflection

Let us begin by quieting contemplating some questions before the Lord.

-Where have I been tempted to minimize my own sin while magnifying the failures of

someone else?

-Am I fully resting in the forgiveness Jesus purchased, or am I still attempting to punish

myself for something Christ has already carried?

-Who comes to mind when I hear the words, “Forgive us our debts, as we also have

forgiven our debtors”?

-What do I believe that person owes me?

-Am I still demanding an apology, an explanation, changed circumstances, restored

time, or emotional suffering?

-How have I attempted to collect that debt?

-Has bitterness appeared through harsh thoughts, repeated stories, emotional distance,

suspicion, gossip, or satisfaction at another person’s pain?

-Have I used boundaries as a form of punishment rather than wisdom?

-Is there a relationship in which I need to apologize, make restitution, establish a

healthy boundary, or take a step toward reconciliation?

Ask the Holy Spirit: “What is the next act of obedience you are asking of me?” Pause

and allow him to answer.

Prayer of Praise

Father, I praise you for the immeasurable mercy you have shown me. You saw the full weight

of my sin and did not turn away. You sent Jesus to pay the debt I could never pay. Jesus, I

praise you for enduring the cross, carrying my guilt, and bearing the judgment I deserved.

Your sacrifice was complete, sufficient, and final.

Thank you that I am not defined by my worst failure. I am not imprisoned by shame or condemned by my past. Through you, I am forgiven, cleansed, accepted, and made new. I praise you because your grace is powerful

enough not only to forgive me but also to transform me. You can make a wounded heart

tender again. You can remove bitterness, silence the desire for revenge, and replace

resentment with peace. You are perfectly just, so I do not have to carry the responsibility of

vengeance. You are perfectly wise, so I can trust you with difficult relationships and uncertainoutcomes. Thank you for the freedom that comes when I receive mercy and extend mercy.

All praise belongs to you.

Prayer of Surrender

Father, I surrender every debt I have carried against another person. I release every demand

for repayment, every desire for revenge, and every attempt to make someone suffer for what

happened. I surrender the apology I may never receive and the explanation that may never

come. I give you my bitterness, anger, harsh thoughts, rehearsed arguments, and painful

memories. Heal the wound beneath every sinful reaction. I surrender the role of judge.

Justice belongs to you.

I trust your perfect knowledge, wisdom, and timing. I also surrender every relationship to your direction. Give me wisdom to know where reconciliation should be pursued, where trust must be rebuilt slowly, and where healthy distance remains necessary.

Keep my boundaries free from revenge and my compassion free from foolishness. I

surrender my shame and self-condemnation. Help me receive the forgiveness Jesus

purchased instead of attempting to pay for my own sin. Make me increasingly merciful

because I have received mercy. Let forgiveness become more than something I believe; let it

become the way I live.

Closing Prayer

During these last few moments, pray the words Jesus taught with honesty and surrender:

“Father, forgive my debts, as I also forgive my debtors.” Then remain quiet, allowing the Holy

Spirit to identify any final debt, wound, or relationship that must be placed into God’s hands.

Allow the Holy Spirit to have the final word today.
