Saturday Heart Check - Because He Lives
Welcome to Daily Prayer. Today is a Heart Check based on the passages we prayed through
this week on the ascension of Jesus. We are holding together the major themes Jesus gave
His disciples after the resurrection and before Pentecost:
He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures.
He proclaimed repentance and forgiveness in His name.
He called them witnesses.
He told them to wait for power.
He ascended into heaven.
And He will come again.
These are the truths to structures our lives around. Let us quiet our hearts and minds
before the Lord, anticipating a special connection with him today.
Father, we give everyone and everything to you.
Word of Encouragement
We are a people formed by Scripture, centered on Jesus, dependent on the Spirit, sent as
witnesses, anchored in the kingdom, and strengthened by the hope of His return. That is a full
life. But it also gives us several places to examine our hearts. This Heart Check is not meant
to condemn you. It is meant to bring you back into alignment.
Prayerfully consider the following questions:
Am I allowing Jesus to open my understanding of Scripture?
Am I living in the joy of repentance and forgiveness?
Am I willing to be a witness?
A Prayer of Adoration
Jesus, I worship you as the crucified, risen, ascended, and returning King. You fulfilled the
Scriptures. You suffered for sinners. You rose from the dead. You reign in heaven. You will
come again. You are the center of the story, the hope of the nations, the King of the kingdom,
and the Savior who offers repentance and forgiveness in your name. Holy Spirit, I worship you
as the promised power from on high. You make Jesus known. You awaken understanding.
You empower witness. You strengthen weak disciples and send ordinary people with
extraordinary grace. Father, I praise you for your perfect authority over times and seasons.
You are wise in your timing, faithful in your promises, and good in all your ways.
Now consider the following:
Am I depending on the Holy Spirit or relying on myself?
Am I distracted by what God has not asked me to know?
Am I standing still when Jesus has called me to move?
Am I living with the hope that He reigns and will return?
A Prayer of Surrender and Trust
Father, I surrender the times and seasons to you. I do not need to know everything in order to
obey what you have made clear. I surrender my need for control. I surrender my fear of
people. I surrender my tendency to strive in my own strength. Jesus, I trust your reign.
Holy Spirit, I depend on your power.
Father, I rest in your timing.
Send me, form me, fill me, and keep me faithful until Jesus returns.
Closing Prayer
During these last few moments, sit quietly with the Lord. Ask Him to bring one of the following
words to the surface:
Understand.
Forgiven.
Wait.
Power.
Witnesss.
Whatever He highlights, hold it before Him as you go.
