Tuesday - The Gospel According To Mark

Feb 3, 2026

Welcome to Daily Prayer. This is week 2 of an 11-week journey through Mark’s account of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are going to follow Jesus all the way from the wilderness to the cross and empty tomb. May our hearts burn within us as we travel along the way. As we begin our time together, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.

A Scripture Reading from Mark 1:21-28

And they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and was teaching. And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, came out of him. And they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? A new teaching with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.” And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.

A Prayer of Adoration

Jesus, we worship You as the Holy One of God.

When You speak, heaven responds and darkness trembles. Your authority is not borrowed, not learned, not questioned — it is inherent, divine, and absolute. You do not argue with evil; You command it. You do not negotiate with darkness; You silence it. We praise You as the King whose word carries power and whose presence brings freedom. You teach with authority, and You rule with compassion. There is no force, seen or unseen, that stands above You. Today we honor You as Lord over every realm, spiritual and physical, and we gladly place our lives under Your good and perfect authority.

A Prayer of Confession

Jesus, we confess that there are times we forget how powerful You truly are. We admit that we sometimes live as if fear, anxiety, sin, or spiritual opposition has more authority than You. We confess the moments we tolerate what You came to cast out, or we try to manage darkness instead of bringing it to You.

Forgive us for underestimating Your power or trusting our own understanding. Cleanse us from unbelief and from any compromise that keeps us from walking in freedom. We submit ourselves again to Your authority, asking You to reign fully in every part of our hearts and lives.

A Prayer of Trust

Jesus, we place our trust in Your authority. You are not threatened by chaos, confusion, or spiritual opposition. With a word, You bring peace. With a command, You bring freedom. We trust that nothing we face is beyond Your control or outside Your care. Teach us to rest in Your power rather than striving in our own strength. When we feel overwhelmed, remind us that You are near. When darkness feels loud, remind us that Your voice is greater. We trust You completely, knowing that where You rule, freedom follows.

A Prayer of Intercession

Jesus, we pray for a world bound by darkness and fear. We lift up those who are oppressed—spiritually, emotionally, and physically—and we ask that Your authority would bring freedom and healing. We pray for our families, friends, and neighbors who are searching for hope but don’t yet know Your power. Open their eyes to see that You are not just a teacher, but the King with authority to save and restore. Let Your presence break chains, silence lies, and bring peace where there is torment. Use Your church as a place of truth, freedom, and light, so that many would know the freedom found only in You.

Read Again

As we read the passage again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

A Moment of Reflection

Lord, search my heart and point our anything that is holding me back from believing and walking in Your authority over darkness and unclean spirits.

A Weekly Verse to Memorize:

Mark 1:17

“And Jesus said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”

Closing Prayer

Over the next few moments, ask God to increase your faith. Pray for discernment to know when you are encountering spirits that are in opposition to Him. And pray for the courage to walk in the kind of love and power that banishes the enemy and establishes the Kingdom of Heaven wherever you go.
