Tuesday - The Gospel According To Mark
Welcome to Daily Prayer. This is week 6 of an 11-week journey through Mark’s account of the gospel of Jesus Christ. As we begin our time together, let’s quiet our hearts and minds before the Lord.
A Scripture Reading from Mark 5:21-24
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. 23 He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.” 24 So Jesus went with him.
A Prayer of Adoration
Jesus, we adore You as the One who is not distant from our pain. Crowds press in on You, yet You remain available. Power flows from You, yet You are gentle with the desperate. We worship You as the Healer who does not require perfect faith, only honest faith. You do not shame our urgency. You do not reject our interruptions. You welcome the cries of parents, the tears of the fearful, the prayers that come out tangled and raw. You are the One we run to when everything else has failed. You are worthy of our urgency. You are worthy of our trust. You are worthy of our desperation. We praise You that You move toward suffering, and that You are never too busy for the brokenhearted.
A Prayer of Confession
Jesus, we confess that we don’t like to be desperate. We prefer control. We prefer composure. We prefer to appear strong and capable. We confess that we often wait until things get unbearable before we come to You. We exhaust our own solutions. We lean on our own strength. We protect our image instead of exposing our need. We confess the ways we’ve delayed obedience, knowing we should run to You but choosing to manage things on our own a little longer. Forgive us for our pride. Forgive us for treating You as a last resort instead of our first response. Forgive us for believing we can carry burdens that were never meant for us to carry alone.
A Prayer of Trust
Jesus, like Jairus, we come to You with what matters most to us. We bring You the people we love. We bring You the situations that feel urgent and fragile. We bring You the places where we are afraid of losing hope. We trust that You are willing to go with us. You did not dismiss his request. You did not minimize his fear. You walked with him into the crisis. We trust You with what feels like life and death in our lives. We trust You when the answer is not immediate.
We trust You when the road to healing feels interrupted and slow. Teach us to keep walking with You even when we don’t yet see the outcome.
A Prayer of Intercession
Jesus, we intercede for those who are desperate today — parents pleading for their children, families facing illness, people overwhelmed by fear or grief, those watching someone they love suffer. We lift up those who feel like time is running out. Those who are exhausted by waiting. Those who feel helpless in situations they cannot fix. We ask that You would meet them the way You met Jairus — not with distance, but with presence. Walk into hospital rooms. Walk into anxious homes. Walk into moments where hope feels fragile. Strengthen weary hearts. Sustain those who are praying prayers they never thought they’d have to pray. And remind them that You go with them into their pain.
Read Again
As we read the passage again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.
A Moment of Reflection
Jesus, I pause to reflect on what I am carrying today.
What situation feels urgent? What burden feels too heavy? What fear have I been quietly holding onto? I desperately come to you the way Jairus did. Help me place it fully into Your hands. I don’t want to hold back what matters most to me. I want to trust You with it. Have Your way in my life. Your will be done, not mine.
A Weekly Verse to Memorize
Closing Prayer
During these last few moments, I invite you to picture yourself at Jesus’ feet. He pauses, lovingly waiting to hear what you would ask of Him. Pour out your heart to Him, including your adoration and your needs. He cares about everything you bring to Him today.
